In the midst of a pause, we learn to see what remains.
Somewhere in Silence is a photographic project made in Thailand during the easing of the COVID 19 lockdown, as a period of isolation slowly gave way to reunion. After months of separation, artist Mikey returned home to reconnect with family, friends, and a community of Thai artists and creatives.
Beginning with the idea of home, the project explores what home means after being away from it, and how a sense of belonging can exist in people, familiar spaces, and the quiet, dynamic moments between them.
The photographs bring together bodies, objects, nature, architecture, and fragments of everyday life. Moving between the posed and the observed, the intimate and the surreal, they explore the tension between stillness and movement, solitude and togetherness. The body becomes both landscape and sculpture, while home becomes less a physical place and more a feeling of connection.
Shot entirely in black and white, the images quiet the visual noise of the outside world. What remains are gestures, textures, shadows, skin, water, fabric, and the presence of another person.
